Buying LED Replacement Bulbs

2012-01-05

Switching to LED light bulbs is probably the best decision anyone can make if they are worried about covering the electric bill every month. But nothing good lasts forever, which is why it is crucial to buy LED replacement bulbs before your current ones die out. Contrary to popular belief, ordering a new batch is not as nearly expensive as it was just a few years ago.

The nice thing about moving to LED is that you do not have to worry about rewiring your entire household in order to seize its benefits. Because most lamp and fixture lights are designed like traditional models, they feature the standard Edison screw to go straight into existing sockets. They also have negative polarity, but if your house is wired positive, a built in corrector can fix that.

A few caveats, however, may dissuade some interested buyers. LED creates an uncanny amount of heat, and gone unchecked, this can seriously shorten the lifespan of the bulb. Many outdoor units, which tend to create greater power and brightness, have housing units with built in heat sinks to regulate the temperature, ensuring a longer service life and maximum integrity.

If you are hoping to replace the bedroom dimmer with an LED bulb, you may want to carefully select the model, since the vast majority of the ones stocked on store shelves are not designed to work with dimmers at all. This is negligible, though, considering that the average lifespan of an LED bulb is over thirty times greater than that of a standard fluorescent bulb.
